Resusitá 2003

For the group exhibition in the Rif Fort, named ‘Resusitá’, I made a series of photos of the hairdo of young boys. When I came to live on the island Curaçao, in 1980, many mothers were saying to their children that curly hair was bad hair and straight hair was good hair. Obviously, many people tried to straighten their curly hair. For me it is a sign of progression that the young generation is making use of the possibilities of curly hair by doing these very creative, fascinating things with their hair.
